Mark asks…
Is it safe to buy laptops or any expensive electronics online?
For instance, I plan to buy a VAIO brand laptop on overstock.com for $800. Much cheaper than it is in best buy or any stores around me. Would it be safe? I’m afraid if I loose all that money and don’t receive my item considering I have never bought anything expensive that is almost $1000.

MIntel answers:
As long as the place you are buying it from is reputable, and you have done your research, then it is perfectly safe.
Overstock.com is a reputable retailer, but you can also try amazon.com or newegg.com

Sandy asks…
Say i buy a refurbished laptop from overstock.com, what exactly are the advantages and disadvantages of this?
just interested my laptop just got stolen.

MIntel answers:
What is your main concern really? Is it buying from Overstock.com, buying a refurbished laptop or other?
I haven’t bought from Ostock before, I would hope the transaction goes well. They do offer a two year protection for $70 that sounds good:

…if you are concerned it dying after 90 day of warranty. With a laptop … Getting moved around alot is a good idea anyway.
Refurbished electronic are items that are returned to the mfg’ for any reason. Some times cosmetic, sometimes nothing wrong with the hardware at all, like if if was returned from a retailer because it’s open box and the retailer couldn’t put on sale floor again. If so it’s returned to the mfg, fixed and all items that go with it is tested with more scrutiny to higher mfg specifications than what rolls off the assembly line and gets a fresh install of the OS. Read up on it more if you haven’t yet.

Laura asks…

i dont really know anything about laptops but this is for a 12 year old girl but im not sure to get it at overstock.com

MIntel answers:
It is refurbished meaning it has been used and re-conditioned. It is up to you if you want to buy something used. I would personally spend extra and buy a new one.

Betty asks…

Linda asks…
What is the best laptop cpu for djing and music production besides mac?
I can’t afford a mac and am considering a refurbished laptop from overstock.com
thanks!

MIntel answers:
Any processor that’s multi-core will be fine (core duo, core 2 duo, AMD athlon, etc) pretty much any notebook made in the past 3 years can easily do audio production and editing. A big Hard Drive will be a must, 250 GB at least. And make sure it has a PCI-expresscard slot, and a IEEE 1394 i link (4 pin firewire) I edit audio a lot, and these features enable you to add quality high speed external audio cards. As the USB 2.0 external audio cards have a lot of lag. And honestly, the most important will be the software you choose. Get Windows xp pro or even better windows xp pro media center edition 2005. Vista has far too many audio glitches. And If you are an experienced musician, I recommend spending the cash for FL studio 8xxL producer edition, That’s what I use. If you are just starting out, get something simple and free like audacity. And it’s a myth that mac books are the best for this type of thing. I have both pc and mac machines and honestly, there isn’t anything the Mac’s do that my pc’s can’t. And The software is always cheaper for pc anyway.
Oh, don’t buy from overstock dude, They only have complete ripoffs for notebooks. Buy a 6 month old used one from your local classifieds, or craigslist for 400$.

I’m looking to find a US laptops wholesaler ?
Besides well-known BestBuy,WalMart,CDW,Costco,ComputerWorld,Amazon,Overstock,eBay etc.
Those are commercial ones.I am looking to find a online (website) store or source where I can buy securely the products and not to be from the mentioned above retailers.
This is not the right time and place for commercials and cheap adds like yours,Mrs.LovelyPatty…
Please,do not use Yahoo!Answers space for that !!!

MIntel answers:
Both of these computers are really slow and both only have 1 GB memory. If you’re planning to run Windows Vista, you’ll need at least 2 but preferably 3 GB memory. There are many laptops for around the same price that are faster and come with more memory and more hard disk space. With all the back-to-school specials in all the stores, you might find something you like better. Good luck!
